Kid’s Merengue Ballroom Dance Class

Kid's Merengue Ballroom Dance online video thumbnail

Our next online dance class for the kids will be a ballroom dance class covering Kid’s Merengue. If you want to know more about our ‘offline’ classes click here.

With our Under 8’s Rainbow class we start with a gentle warm-up, followed by some party dances and then today’s dance the Salsa, adapted for younger kids.

The aim is to have a few fun elements that teach basic techniques, before we cover a couple of simple steps of this video’s dance.

Our Kid’s Class Merengue Lesson

In today’s kids class Imogen is going to show us her warm up.

We’ll then dance our Heel-Toe Polka (first shown back in our Kid’s Waltz class); followed by the Farmer’s Wife (first shown back in our first Kid’s class, Samba).

Finally Antony and Immi will take you through some basic Merengue with our march, a separation and turns for leader and follower.

With the Merengue our basic movement is a marching action, however rather than lifting the knees we aim to ‘push’ into the floor. We often describe this as imagining you are squashing grapes between your toes.

We tend to recommend parents act as the leader but feel free to do whatever works for you.

The Music

The music for our Kid’s Merengue Ballroom Dance Class includes:

  • Heel-Toe Polka
  • Farmer’s Wife
