Saunter Together, adapted for smaller spaces
Looking to learn the Saunter Together, but don’t have the space, or want to practice at home? Check out our sequence for small spaces series of videos.
Sequence dancing is where you repeat the same 16 or 32 bar routine throughout a song, dancing around the room, and in sync with everyone else.
Now that’s great when you have the space! What we’re going to show you today is how to practice the basic movements in your front room.
The Dance – Saunter Together
The Saunter Together is based loosely on Foxtrot, although you won’t really recognise many steps!
To convert this into the full routine you would dance down line of dance first of all (rather than the diagonal), the repeat of the walking section takes you back to where you started. The turn to promenade would then be with you both looking down line of dance.
The promenade into the whisks would see the leader with their back to the wall having moved down line of dance. After the untwist the leader would now be facing the wall.
The chassé would be straight along line of dance and the turn to shadow hold would see us both looking down line of dance. After the turn around the leader is facing line of dance, the follower backing, and we start our Saunter Together again.
The Music
For our Saunter Together lesson we have used Jaguar Jive by the Water Mirrors:
although our favourite track for dancing a Saunter Together is My Baby Just Cares For Me by Nina Simone:
