Well the football didn’t go how most of us wanted, but that does mean we will be running our Sunday Social practice session tomorrow night.

Following a very successful Blackpool trip for Learn To Dance (with Matthew & Ellie picking up 1st place for both their Tango & Jive couples competitions), and looking at the overall competitive field, we have decided to start offering the option for students to take part in inter-school competitions. More details to follow but let us know if you might be interested.

This week we’ll be recapping Viennese Waltz and looking at Salsa along with week 2 of our Beginner Waltz course (last chance to join!)

Plus don’t forget our summer social takes place on Friday 7th August.

⭐ Antony & Emma’s tip of the week
We want to aim for fluid movements in our Salsa. When doing the basic you have a small forward or backward step, instead of closing the feet. This should help to avoid a ‘bounce’ action when dancing, then we just need to work on developing the hip action!

Viennese Waltz
- Beginner – Change steps (forward and backward), a quarter turn to left, our ‘zig-zag’ basic
- Improver – The reverse turn
- Improver 2 – no class last week
- Improver 3 – no class last week
- Intermediate 1 – Reverse Fleckerl
- Intermediate 2 – Contra Check into Natural Fleckerl
- Advanced – Underarm turn during Natural Fleckerl
- Over 50s – Release to Side-by-Side, Fan ending

Medallist Competitions

Following a very successful Medallist of the Year Grand Finals for Matthew & Ellie, we looked at the field and realised that Learn To Dance students could compete at the level being displayed.

Therefore we have made the decision to begin offering the opportunity to take part in medallist competitions. These would be open to all ages and the minimum requirement would be having taken exams, normally within a defined 12 month period.

We will be getting full details, along with dates for the competitions, but at this stage we’ll be looking for expressions of interest. We may look to hold an information evening or webinar to provide more details and answer any questions.

Upcoming Events

Dancers on our 2024 Bournemouth Dance Weekend, in a guys and molls theme

Our Summer Social will take place on Friday 7th August. There’s a welcome drink on arrival, a summery theme to outfits, and dancing throughout the night. We’ll also be looking at incorporating some fun solo and couples dances too!

Bridgend Dance Weekend – Friday 25th-27th September

Our Bridgend Dance Break (formerly Bournemouth) is looking at Foxtrot & Samba this year, with a “Golden Age of Hollywood” theme to the Saturday night.

Places start from £265pp and bookings close on 25th August. We’re already over 45% booked and only have 3 solo rooms remaining.
