Catherine Waltz, adapted for smaller spaces

Catherine Waltz sequence dance online video thumbnail

Looking to learn the Catherine Waltz, but don’t have the space, or want to practice at home? Check out our sequence for small spaces series of videos.

Sequence dancing is where you repeat the same 16 or 32 bar routine throughout a song, dancing around the room, and in sync with everyone else.

Now that’s great when you have the space! What we’re going to show you today is how to practice the basic movements in your front room.

The Dance – Catherine Waltz

The Catherine Waltz features almost entirely bronze and silver level Waltz steps. The hardest move is the Closed Telemark due to its heel turn.

We’ve had a little bit of trouble with heel pulls and turns in this temporary studio, our shoes keeping sticking to the floor, but we’re doing our best!

The routine is made up of under-turned reverse turns, a forward passing change, some under-turned natural spin turns (very under-turned!), a whisk, wing and a closed telemark finished up with a move similar to a shoulder to shoulder.

To convert this into the full routine you would only need to finish the spin turns facing line of dance.

The Music

In our Catherine Waltz online lesson we have used Waltz For Little Italy by Bireli Snow
